About Gurveet Kular

Gurveet Kular is a Family Law Solicitor who has practised exclusively in family law since 2017. She qualified as a solicitor in June 2021 and became a member of the Family Law Advanced Panel in 2022, later progressing to a supervisory role within her firm. Gurveet is based in Derby, Derbyshire, and regularly attends court in this area. She also has extensive professional career and case experience across Birmingham and the wider West Midlands. As a result, she frequently conducts cases at Birmingham Family Court and the surrounding courts, and is familiar with the procedural approach and expectations within these jurisdictions.

Her career has been dedicated entirely to family law, spanning private children disputes, financial remedy proceedings, care proceedings and domestic abuse matters. From the outset of her career, she has been involved in case preparation, client management and court advocacy, developing practical experience across both private and public law proceedings. Gurveet practises as a consultant solicitor (regulated by the SRA) in association with SRA-regulated law firms, through which all legal services are provided.

Professional Background

Gurveet began her legal career as a family law paralegal in Birmingham before securing a training contract in 2019. During her training and subsequent qualification, she developed experience in complex and sensitive family matters, including high-conflict children cases and public law proceedings involving local authorities.

Her progression to Advanced Panel membership reflects recognised competence within the field, while her experience as a supervisor demonstrates professional responsibility beyond case conduct alone.

Throughout her career, she has worked within established family law practices, gaining structured experience in case management, procedural discipline and courtroom preparation.

Why Family Law?

Gurveet chose to practise exclusively in family law because it sits at the intersection of legal principle and real human consequence. The decisions made in these cases directly affect children, homes, financial security and long-term stability.

Family law demands more than technical knowledge. It requires judgment, composure and the ability to navigate conflict without losing sight of the broader picture. From the beginning of her career, Gurveet was drawn to the complexity and responsibility that this area of law carries.

She is particularly motivated by ensuring that individuals - especially those facing power imbalances, allegations or state intervention - understand their rights and are properly represented. Vulnerable clients often enter proceedings feeling overwhelmed or unheard. Clear advice, structured preparation and confident representation can restore balance.

Her work is driven by the belief that careful preparation and steady advocacy can make a meaningful difference to outcomes.

Advocacy and Courtroom Experience

Advocacy has formed a core part of Gurveet’s practice since 2018. She regularly conducts her own hearings in both private and public law matters, including contested and fact-finding hearings.

This practical courtroom experience shapes her approach to preparation. Cases are managed with a clear understanding of evidential requirements, judicial expectations and procedural strategy.

Where appropriate, she works collaboratively with Counsel to ensure representation is aligned with the demands of the case.

Practice Philosophy

Family law requires both legal precision and measured judgment. Proceedings can involve significant emotional strain, but legal decisions are ultimately grounded in evidence, statutory principles and procedural fairness.

Gurveet’s approach is:

•  Calm and structured

•  Strategically prepared

•  Direct and realistic

•  Professionally disciplined

Clients receive honest advice about strengths and risks. Expectations are managed carefully. Preparation is thorough. Her aim is not to escalate matters unnecessarily, but to ensure that where issues must be contested, they are advanced properly and with clarity.

A Direct and Accountable Model

Gurveet operates a modern, fully remote practice and accepts instructions nationwide. Clients instruct a named solicitor who retains conduct of their matter throughout proceedings. There are no internal handovers and no fragmented responsibility. Continuity strengthens preparation and allows a detailed understanding of each client’s circumstances.

In addition to her own caseload, Gurveet is instructed by other firms to provide locum support and solicitor advocacy services, reflecting professional confidence in her ability to manage cases and conduct hearings effectively.
